Fecal Incontinence

Fecal Incontinence

Fecal incontinence, also known as bowel incontinence, is the inability to control bowel movements or gas and is a condition that can be caused by many different issues. The catalyst could be a pelvic floor dysfunction with spasms or weakness, a coordination issue, inability to achieve an adequate contraction, tightness due to constipation, or a weakness caused by an episiotomy or a pelvic surgery like hysterectomy. Your physical therapist may help you to create a healthy nutrition and exercise plan with pelvic floor exercises (Kegel exercises) to promote strengthening of the pelvic floor muscles.
