Chronic Pain & FibromyalgiaChronic Pain & Fibromyalgia

Fibromyalgia is a syndrome characterized by fatigue and chronic pain in the muscles and soft tissues surrounding the joints along with tenderness at specific sites in the body. Patients who suffer from fibromyalgia may also experience restless legs and difficulty remembering, concentrating, and performing simple tasks. Some fibromyalgia patients get tension and migraine headaches, anxiety, depression, hypersensitivity, numbness in face, arms, hands, legs or feet, irritable bladder/bowel, dizziness, insomnia, and sleep apnea.

We offer a wide range of treatment modalities to control and eliminate chronic pain. Warm water therapy is especially useful for reducing the diffuse non-localized pain associated with fibromyalgia. The buoyancy of the water deloads the joints while the warmth of the water helps to release spasmed muscles, relieve nerve inflammation, and relax soft tissues. We use a wide variety of manual techniques with chronic pain conditions as well. Soft tissue massage, craniosacral therapy, joint mobilization, and visceral mobilization can be extremely helpful for clients with chronic pain conditions. Cold laser therapy helps with the pain because it helps encourage circulation to soft tissues that often cause pain.

Exercise programs for clients with chronic pain can include postural education, body mechanics training, stretching, and strengthening and endurance programs.
